On July 2, 2008 Governor Patrick signed the Green Communities Act, a comprehensive energy reform bill that promotes cost savings, renewable energy, and stimulates the clean energy industry. As part of this legislation the State Board of Building Regulations and Standards was required to adopt as it’s minimum standard, the latest edition of the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC 2009) as part of the State Building Code. This new addition to the Building Code went into effect on January 1, 2010 and raises the requirements for insulation and building envelope, doors and windows, heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment and lighting fixtures. Energy conservation is the codes focus and home improvement projects may require changes to be in
compliance. A quick email or call can provide answers to your questions.
