Town of Otis Technology Committee
Meeting Minutes
November 26, 2008
Present: Howard Levin, Robert Rocke, Larry Gould, Ernest Lowell, Lisa D’Orazio
Not Present: Mary Anne Cicchillo
· Meeting called to order at 6:45 pm
· Robert Rocke informed committee members that he had to step down as committee chair due to conflict of interest. He is currently maintaining the Town’s computer systems and this is deemed in conflict with the committee. Ernest Lowell volunteered to have his name submitted to the Board of Selectmen as the new committee chair.
· Lisa D’Orazio volunteered to be the recording secretary for the committee.
· Robert Rocke discussed the Southern Berkshire technology initiative and how it appears to impact Otis’ technology initiative – this was mainly to bring the two new members (Ernie & Lisa) up to date with the Otis technology committee. The intent is to have the state finance a FIOS backbone throughout Berkshire County and the Otis Technology committee will tie this county initiative into the local community’s needs.
· December 3rd is the last date for tutorial classes for updating the Town of Otis website (First Class Workshop). Lisa D’Orazio expressed interest in attending this class and will look into it. Robert Rocke will check with the selectmen as to what, if anything, may/may not be reimbursed for attendance.
· The Otis Tech Committee plans to review all town-owned computers to determine what the operating standards should be and who needs to be upgraded to meet those standards. The school (FRRS) will not be included in this analysis because the school computers are not town-owned.
· The Otis Tech Committee also plans to survey town residents as to who wants/needs what type of service. The committee is hoping to establish some type of wireless access that is other than cell tower access.
· The next Otis Tech Committee meeting has not presently been scheduled. TBD
