MINUTES
Members Present: Hanna Barrett, Nick DellaGiustina, Laurie Nikituk, Roberta Sarnacki, John Skrip, Mary Turo, Anita Weinstein, Jane Gleason.

Call to Order: Laurie Nikituk called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM.
Laurie Nikituk welcomed Nick DellaGiustina, our new member from Sandisfield.
Approval of Minutes of Meeting #246: The Minutes of Meeting #246 were approved as submitted. Moved Anita Weinstein, Seconded John Skrip. Voted 5 In Favor, 1 Abstention.
MCAS Spring 2009 Presentation: Superintendent Austin is unable to be present tonight and will provide her report to members. Principal Mary Turo reviewed the Spring 2009 MCAS results. We failed to make AYP in the area of English Language Arts. Her analysis indicated areas needing improvement are writing skills.
She then explained that our professional days will address techniques to improve writing skills. We will be using recovery funds to purchase materials focused on improving writing. There will be more reading time during the school day and students will continue to be encouraged to read at home. After school tutoring will be available to students for several weeks prior to the next MCAS test.
Mrs. Turo then explained the annual comparisons and briefly reviewed the Math and Science results. We also discussed how our small population can easily skew the statistics in a dramatic way.
Surplus Property Declaration: Jane Gleason identified several items that should be declared as surplus property – our old Preschool van and several car seats. A notice will be placed in the local newspaper and a means for interested parties to place a bid on these items.
Motion: To declare a 1999 Ford Econoline Van and 6 car seats as surplus property. Moved John Skrip, Seconded Roberta Sarnacki.
Motion: To adjourn the meeting at 7:40 PM.
